Technology augmented performance art. A mix of performance and generative artwork. This is absolutely brilliant and powerful as an end product in itself, but also as an idea that opens up all sorts of new avenues of possibilities.

Impulse 101 is a diptych, half painting/half beamer, 100% on the internet.
The work begins with the 4 foundational font characters of 8-bit Block ASCII, ░ ▒ ▓ █. It consists of two 100 x 100 cm canvases. The left (black) side is acrylic on canvas, while the right counterpart is a beamer projection of ASCII art animations utilizing real and faux copy paste glitches in MS WordPad.

This motion graphic represents the isolated frequencies and rhythmic patterns of Ryan York’s “If I Am This Forest”. Of particular interest is the swell beginning at 0:45, and multiple simultaneous frequencies which form the single melodic vocal line at 2:05.

In INTERNET TOPOGRAPHY, silent audio signals are sent from the exhibition space to Tokyo, then returned within the installation space where we can listen to it. The transmission errors that occur during these streamings are analyzed and then considered as a potential and incomplete layout of the network topography. Similar to a landscape, this digital topography proves to be an unstable organization of patterns, shapes and outlines opening the way to multiple mental representations. This imaginary scope is made perceptible trough an immersive sound and light installation.
